"I was teasing, Evie," Eli clarified, his smile a harmless one. "I only meant that you are sure to keep him on his toes." There was something about her that spoke of an innocence that wasn't the norm in modern times, and he wondered about it, but did not ask. It did lead him to clarify, though, lest she get the wrong impression. "Love isn't about control at all. If someone attempts to control you, then I recommend running for the proverbial hills," he said, looking back toward her father and her date.
Instead, he noticed Preston and Blake arriving, and he looked away and motioned back toward the bar. "I believe I require another drink. Shall I escort you to your date? Or would you rather return to the bar with me?" he asked.
