"Be careful," he advised, even though she well knew that. "If he's broken, he might be too much of a mess for you to get much out of him. Particularly if he managed to keep his hands off you while you were naked." Her concern for her mark was endearing, and he touched her cheek lightly as he spoke. She had a good heart, better than a lot of the girls he'd met. He wondered how she held onto it in a business like theirs.
The crowd was being loud, now that she mentioned it, and he waved a hand even as he reached for his shirt. "They can wait a minute longer," he said. "I like to make them wait. It makes them that much crazier when I get out there." He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking a long drag. If he was going to wade through fans, he wasn't going to do it before he'd at least had a quick smoke.
