"Good," he said firmly. He was a relieved, thinking the same thing she was. If she'd asked for it, he would have given her the money, but the idea that she'd come there for that and that alone would have stuck with him. "You're a lucky girl," he said. The man she'd been with when he met her, Miguel, he hadn't been so bad. Some girls ended up being kept by the worst of the worst men, though, and he didn't want that for her.
"I've got an apartment here," he said. "Have for a couple years now, actually." He picked up a pot of rouge and swiped his thumb into it, taking her by the chin and rubbing it expertly along the line of her lips.
