"Stay, for a while," he said. "We're working on our next album, so we've got some downtime between touring, thank god. I mean touring's fine, the fans are great, it's just..." He shrugged. "I like being able to stay in one place and at least feel a little like it's home before jetting off somewhere else." Plus, it was easier to get his privacy and manage the amount of time he had to spend in close quarters with people.
It was odd, talking to Wren. She knew more about him than even the rest of the band did, easily the only people around him that he was remotely close to, and he'd spent years with them. With Wren it had been a matter of hours, but it felt like so much more. "We'll be here probably six months at the minimum, ironing the kinks out. I'll put your name on the list for the next show we do. I wish I'd know you were coming, I would have gotten you in for free." No one would have recognized Varian, in that moment. He was enthused, pleased to see her and happy to be near her, not haughty or distant, not sharp-edged.
