Who: Daryl, Jane, Toby, and Adam What: Christmas Eve dinner Where: Bathos 104 When: December 24 Warnings: Awkward, cute, and puppy mischief
Adam spent the entire day cooking. He had never appreciated just how hard his mother worked to cook a meal for them until doing it himself. He had started some time around eleven and was only just finishing up when the knock came at his door. Pulling his apron off, and feeling a bit ridiculous for wearing it, he made his way to the door. Pausing in front of the hall mirror, he checked his appearance. Dark jeans, a nice sweater over a collared shirt, no socks. He looked nice but casual, ready to have a pair of friends - and their dog - over for dinner.
Pulling the door open, he fixed both ladies with a friendly smile, and the anxiety he'd been avoiding all day surged through him. "Come in, please," he told them, holding the door as they entered. While cooking, he hadn't needed to think about the fact that Daryl was coming. But she was in his apartment now, and he felt like he was a thirteen year old idiot again, wanting to impress a girl.
He caught his lower lip between his teeth for the barest second before ushering them into the kitchen and dining area. "Ham's just about done," he said, "and you're welcome to help yourselves to the wine." He pointed to the counter, where a very nice, very expensive bottle of Tempranillo sat already uncorked.
