Bathos 702
Dottie had been lying in bed, not quite awake but not quite asleep when she heard the knock on the door. There wasn't much for her to do over the holidays and she was mildly content just wasting away in her bed until someone tried to contact or find her. Dressed in a pair of fuzzy socks, a pair of plaid pajama shorts and a white hoodie from her school's rugby team, Dot rushed to open the door after the second knock, almost slipping in the process.
The apartment was a mess of papers tacked to every available surface, from Dot's overnight cram sessions during the winter exam period, and empty food containers. Her hair was piled on top of her head in a messy bun, and her make-up was smudged from not removing it before she went to bed. There were no Christmas decorations in site and it didn't look as though there would be any such decorations any time soon.
On the other side of the door, stood a young girl, about Dot's age, with a pillowcase full of something and a red Santa hat sitting crookedly on top of her head. She half expected the girl to start singing or telling her about the charity she represented. Dot was suddenly very aware of the state she was in, but all she could do was rub blindly at the dark makeup that had been smudged under her eyes. Putting on the best smile she could manage, at the moment, she waited to see what the girl wanted.
