Alfie listened, and she nodded. "I think I know someone you can work with on your theories, assuming you'd like an introduction?" She very much hoped Mika would answer affirmatively, admittedly. "There are quite a few young people in Seattle who want to see this world made better. Not all of them are on the communicators, from what I gather, but a great many are. It is, I find, good to be part of a larger group at times, especially with things of this nature."
She smiled when Mika discussed her family, smiled at the pride in her voice and in her eyes. She remembered her own daughter, then. Martha had never looked at her like that, but she had adored Marcus in much the same way. It was good, Alfie thought, that Mika had someone she loved so well. This was not a place to be if no one ensured you came home in the evenings, she was realizing.
"How did cookies become a holiday tradition?" she asked, nodding toward the bowl.
