"Partly," She paused to take a sip of her cocoa, "My brothers are my brothers, but our father adopted us after our parents disappeared." She sounds less affected by this than most other people would have, but it's because she has never really known any other parent than her father. To her, it is almost as if her biological parents never existed.
Mika was glad that Alfie had found a way to reconnect with her family, she was a sucker for reunions and Christmas was the perfect time for that kind of thing. Nodding as Alfie pointed towards the kitchen, Mika placed her mug on the coffee table and picked up the grocery bags that she had brought with her.
She unloaded the bags on an unbelievable shiny marble counter-top before answering Alfie, "Well most of my friends are from school or people I work with, but my best friend lives in our building. She's been through a lot, from the other side, but she's a trooper and she's here now." Seattle may not seem like your textbook definition of a safe-haven, but it was more than just a few steps up from what she'd seen of Ava's past. She hadn't realized that some of the creations that ended up in Seattle had pasts that they were trying to run from, not until she'd met Ava. But it put things into perspective for her, it added to the reasons why Mika did her part to fight crime.
