At the tightening of Bunny's grip on his leg, Doug tried smiling down at her, but it was a small smile. His feeling of guilt over drugging her against her knowledge was growing stronger as he sat there. Yes, she'd needed to calm down and had just been getting more and more worked up, but he could have asked her, let her know what they'd been doing. He wanted to tell her, just lay it out in the open, but the words caught in his throat and the secret remained lurking, wrapping its dark fingers around his worry and making everything seem worse.
He was grateful when she took the pastry and even more when Rad spoke up to answer her question. He'd tell her what they'd done and accept whatever punishment she deemed fit. But not now. He couldn't add that burden to her along with everything else.
