Alex had hoped that crossing the portal would make sleeping better. It only made her problem worse. The first night had been difficult, as expected. Being alone always made it hard to sleep but the unfamiliar surroundings only exacerbated her problem. She worried the second night would be much the same, but her body started to wind down after being up for forty hours straight. She dozed, but restlessly, her dreams filled with flying and floating. She didn't bother to open her eyes as she shifted positions again and again. Yet the sensations still lingered, the remnants of her dream seemingly impossible to shake. Her body seemed to think that four hours of fitful slumber was enough and woke her with the dawn. By the third night in Seattle, she was wide awake again.
She finally gave up trying and went outside. Exploring the surrounding area was on her list of things to do but it was nearly useless to do at night. Seattle was no Las Vegas. This was a city that slept. Seeing it now was just a shadow of what it would normally be like. A few answers here and there but she wouldn't get much insight into what it or her inhabitants were like. Alexis walked a few blocks to see if there was anything interesting going on but no such luck. A solitary diner was open, her best bet of the night, and she entered it quietly, the scrape of the metal door frame against the floor the only announcement that she arrived.
She peeled off her leather jacket and slid onto a seat at the counter. The waitress - Rita, her name tag said - offered her no greeting. No hello. No smile. She just stood there to see if Alex knew the protocol. "Coffee. Black." Rita started to pull a mug out and fill it up with the order. Alexis glanced up at the specials menu but it was currently being wiped away, Late Night menu making way for the Early Riser deals. "For now," she conceded finally. She'd wait to see if there was anything good. In the meantime, she grabbed the regular menu from the side and flipped through to see what they normally offered. She wasn't that hungry, but maybe if she had something filling her she'd be able to doze off into an after meal nap. She could only hope.
