Thomas took his previous seat and glanced at Luke's empty one speculatively, but he didn't comment on it just yet. Instead he took a roll and said evenly, "I don't need a drink." He had caught the slight of hand with the champagne, fortunately, and he didn't add that she didn't need a drink either.
"I'm sure he'll be back in a moment," he replied, with the utmost confidence. Now that Max was sitting where she was supposed to be, Thomas had the leisure to focus elsewhere. He gave poor Jackson and his date a measuring look that had to be extremely uncomfortable, and he nodded a little at Quinn in greeting once the room was distracted by the arrivals of the main course. To Max he said, "Are you angry with me?" He had changed his mind in the middle of a ballroom, after all. He didn't seem to be as aware of being watched as she was. He certainly wasn't letting it interfere with talking to her.
