Luke stared at her in obvious confusion. Was this rejection? Why was she talking about the hospital? He felt like he missed something somewhere, or maybe he'd just screwed things up completely. Maybe their friendship would be completely awkward and forced now. It would have been really helpful if he knew what she was thinking.
"What?" For a moment he considered denying it, but then he realized he couldn't tell her what he'd really been hiding. "Oh. Yeah. I did want to tell you, Bunny-- but I wasn't talking about the hospital. I was... I thought you... never mind." This had been a really bad idea. He should have just kept his mouth shut, but no, he'd gone and ruined everything. "Uh. Can you just... ignore all that stuff I said? Obviously you don't... feel the same way and I don't want things to be awkward. So... yeah." He was such an idiot. "We should... go back inside, before they think I ditched my own party or something." He attempted a laugh, fortunately still unaware of what was happening in the room.
