"That doesn't matter. I have to be there now," she really had no idea what she was saying, because she was trying to talk herself into going back into the room. "I have to go in there and pretend that it's okay that you're now Thomas Brandon's kid. I have to pretend like I'm okay with it. I have to pretend like I don't care what everyone else thinks, because I'm your friend." She ran her fingers through her hair. "They should think I'm dumb, because I didn't see any of this coming. I'm really stupid. He was the one who called me when you got shot. You moved in with him. You're so cool with it, without even questioning where all this is coming from."
Really, none of this made a lick of sense, but if Luke was happy with it, who was she to judge anymore. She needed more than a minute and she knew it, but she didn't want to give herself that. She was trying to relax, needed to relax. This was an important night for Luke and he wanted her to be there, so she was going to be there.
