Being outside was a revelation for her, even after a month of freedom. Every time she walked out the door, the wind in her face, rank as Seattle's was, was remarkable and worth savoring. Even though she detested cold weather, in Humanity she spent as much time outside as she could. She took long walks, sat on park benches and just soaked up the sun. It was great. The only unfortunate thing about freedom was the sheer volume of choices. As she walked down the streets of Seattle, she was bombarded on all sides by advertisements and sweet, beckoning scents. Reina paused outside a coffee shop, looking inside at the customers, sitting there without a care, ordering their coffees and drinking them. The fact that she could order a coffee, whatever kind she wanted, was novel and wonderful.
She was about to walk in when she heard her cousin's voice from her pocket. Glancing around, she slipped her hand into her jacket pocket and pulled out the blush compact. Popping it open, she pretended to examine her face as she scowled at her cousin. He was interested in testing the limits of her mirror-connecting powers (or something, she wasn't quite sure, but it made her look crazy in public) which meant he called her whenever he felt like it, regardless of where she might be, and she was expected to answer. From someone else, it would have been suffocating and scary. From Justin, it was tolerable, but only because she knew if she packed up and left, he'd be screwed. The interdependency was a balm and reassurance.
"What do you want?" she hissed, glancing around again. People passed by quickly, without noticing her. For her part, Reina attempted to look as natural as possible. This, she figured, made her stand out even more. Patting her cheek and turning her head as though checking her makeup, she scowled, whispering, "You're going to get me caught by a normal person one of these days."
