RETURN OF THE BAT? [Late night, grainy image of The Bat from the previous evening.] The Seattle Times has been receiving and publishing Letters To The Editor about the sudden disappearance of The Bat, and while we've only posted a few such letters, we've been receiving dozens of them daily. Now, after weeks of desertion, The Bat had made a reappearance. Whether this was spurned on by recent articles or whether the actions are those of a copycat are questionable, and we'll admit to fighting about it over the water-cooler this morning at the paper. Is The Bat The Bat? The Bat was spotted in a Rainier Alley, where he reportedly immobilized an assailant by falling on him, according to a grateful eyewitness. While the victim appreciated the gesture, we have to ask why The Bat--the most skilled mask in Seattle--is falling on criminals? Another report indicates he ran from two assailants. However, he was seen in multiple places later in the evening with no incident. Maybe his wings were rusty. We can't be sure, but we know one thing--someone thinks they're The Batman. In the search of journalistic truth, we challenge anyone to bring us photographic proof--either to prove or disprove the theory that we have an impostor on our hands. (CON'T page A2) → |
