Holiday Stockings
[On Sunday evening, holiday stockings go up at Verisimilitude (with fliers left on every apartment door saying as much). They are located in the main atrium, and they are designated by building. An attendant will be on duty all week, and they will help find the correct stocking for gift givers that do not know the appropriate apartment number or name of their recipients. Gifts may also be delivered to Verisimilitude, for patrons not wishing to go out of their way... or not wishing to be seen. Throughout the week, the contents of each stocking will be delivered to the door of the recipient. Items too large to fit in the stocking are delivered immediately.]

(Please identify recipient in the subject line of each post. Gifts may be left anonymously, or with character journals. Gifts may, also, be left erroneously in incorrect stockings. Reactions can be posted as comment replies upon receipt of gifts throughout the week. Note, this sticky post will not show comment count, so track/check to see if new gifts have been left.)

It's too big to fit in the stocking, and so it sits beneath it for the better part of the morning, before being delivered to the intended recipient. The wrapping is plain brown paper and expensive twine, and there is a note attached in the gift giver's hand. It is made of rosewood, antique and ridiculously expensive.

Happy Holidays to the Artist, from his Patron.

The box is small, white and wrapped in French newspaper and tied with a dusty rose ribbon. Inside, more delicate paper is folded over the silver chain and tiny pendant. The note tucked inside is hand written, the letters those of a young girl, but the note unsigned. It's true, you know. Every word. Joyeux Noël, Luke.

This has no box. It's just tucked into the stocking, after having been lovingly polished and shined.

The package is a bit too big for the stocking and thus slated for delivery. The signature red presentation box is neatly wrapped with silver paper. A note, written in a fine copperplate long hand, accompanies it. The note is unsigned, but the quality of the handwriting and the message it contains gives away the sender's identity.

Ms. Michaels, as I cannot purchase you a drink in person due to our respective stations, I do hope may this serve as a suitable substitute. Happy wishes in this holiday season.

The package is too large for the stocking, and it is slated for deliver later that day. J Cooper has been engraved under one handle, and the note attached is in Alfie's hand.

Jane,

I realize we have only just recently met, but I wanted to convey my deepest good wishes for the holiday season. I know my presence in your life has not always been desired, nor has it been easy. I apologize for any unease I have caused you, and I assure you that I only wish to get to know you, perhaps to share in your life, but mostly to see you triumph and obtain whatever you would wish for yourself.

Affectionately,
Your Grandmother.

Four books. Book One, Book Two and Book Three and Four (Vols 1 and 2).

Thomas, I will refrain from emotionality and say, simply, that I value your friendship immeasurably, and that you continue to make me proud with every day that passes. - Alfie

The kitten is left with the attendant and delivered almost immediately to his intended recipient, along with a large wrapped box full of cat supplies that includes food, grooming tools, collars, toys, a scratching post, and other necessities. A note is tucked into the kitten's current collar.

Wren,

I saw this little guy and knew right away that you two would be perfect for each other. He doesn't have a name yet, but he's already very brave and very clever and has a lot of love to give. Don't worry about his vaccinations - all that's taken care of. For the kitten's future medical needs just go to [insert address here] and ask for Dr. Samuels. He's a great vet and he'll take care of everything.

Whenever you think you might be unimportant or you feel alone, just cuddle up with Mr. Kitten and he'll set you straight. Merry Christmas.

- Luke

A very battered paperback book is wrapped (with excruciating neatness, probably out of some sort of "Wrapping Gifts for Dummies" manual) in really ridiculous gold Santa paper. The Art of War is surprisingly unmarked in the main, but there are careful pencil underlines and small asterisks throughout Sima's contribution.

There is also a very simple card with Luke's name on it, and a $500 gift card to Buy Best Electronics. Inside it says, in Thomas' block script,

Please tell Alfie I bought you something very cheerful and relaxing.

I am proud to have family.

The necklace is wrapped in a piece of white cotton, and is in turn wrapped around a piece of paper. On the paper is the text of a poem in the original french. Beneath it - 'Let nothing bring you to the ground.' The note is handwritten in black ink and spiky handwriting. There is a sketched silhouette for a signature.

This one is actually left for Quinn, because Wren doesn't know Oracle's real name, but the note inside the box itself clarifies who the recipient is meant to be.

Oracle, thank you for watching over us all. - Little Bird

[In a black velvet box with the jeweler's inscription on it. They included a nice certificate and there is also a note to Mr. Brandon about the diamond's origins in a non-conflict area. Fortunately, Thomas didn't try to wrap this one. There's one of his awful plain cards, but after a week of sitting in the damp warehouse he only had her name written on it. So finally, in fresher ink, there is just:]

Happy holidays.

[And Thomas' damned formal signature:]

The Box with Quinn's actual present is too large for the stocking. The dress is about as feminine as a dress could be, and the hair pins are equally pretty and girly. The bracelet is in a cream velvet pouch within the box, and it is not new. In fact, the ribbon is starting to fray on the edges. It is well cared for and well loved, the bracelet. The note is tucked into the velvet pouch: I've never had a best friend before you. Love, Wren.

A store-wrapped Christmas box containing thick green knit sweater, obviously not homemade. There is a matching knit hat, but the gloves don't match.

In addition there is a second box of assorted Christmas snacks, which include nuts, sausage, crackers, cheese, powdered hot chocolate, sweetened popcorn, and the like.

The bracelet is probably too feminine for Tristan, and Wren knows it, but she thought of him just as soon as she saw it. It's folded into a page of sheet music, What Child is this, and it's signed with her real name, Roxanna, on the corner.

Left before he can second guess whether or not it is a good idea is a necklace wrapped with plain brown paper. On the inside of the wrapping paper is the text of a poem. There is no indication of what the poem is meant to mean. Instead, at the bottom, is a short message: I've been thinking of you lately, but have found myself without words. Have some of Poe's in my stead.
Merry Christmas - Jack

The silver rattle is standard Tiffany. There are two items rolled up with it. The first is an ultrasound, dated 12/16. The second is a document drawn up by a lawyer for full-joint custody once the baby is born. It's all wrapped in a pink ribbon.

The lighter would be considered a collector's piece, since it's a good twenty years old, but she didn't buy it. It's from Musings, from her hometown, and upon closer inspection, there's a tiny battery sized silver disk that's barely visible when it's opened, Musings military lines just visible on the side. There's a note tucked in the cap. It streams video. In case you get in trouble out there.

The newspaper is an old copy of the Creations Times, one of its earlier issues. The article "Behind the Inkblot" is prominently featured. At the very bottom of the article, written in pen, is a pictorial signature. No other writing or signature is present.

A black nightgown, carefully folded and wrapped in tissue paper, is slipped into the stocking. With it goes twelve toothpicks and a small, 3.5" x 5.5" notebook. Each page of the notebook has a puzzle written on it in Adam's handwriting, taking up no more than four or five lines.
