What do you mean, 'trouble'? If business meetings are very dull, I ask to leave. They usually let me, especially if I look tired. Are you tired, Jennifer? I give words to whoever wants them, and really, the words aren't important. It's just a communication, a way of living for the stories. Where the stories want to go, I tell but they don't care who listens, just that someone does. I think they'd die, otherwise. Without being heard. But I don't tell many. Poetry's better.
No, never. You can be inside a story and be the one telling it and just have got lost. It's easy and I don't think I've told anyone anything at all, so I don't know how. [...] There's evidence enough I was there, I didn't dream it, but sometimes it blurs. Sometimes they leave things behind. Did it feel like a story to you? You were definitely there, were you not?
Working together is all very well so long as you don't get caught and pulled down. It's a nice thought, though. Clearly, you're not reading the right kind of thing. That's all right. Nobody does, really.
