Honey didn't mean to wake anyone, but she was used to living alone and her jobs meant she was mostly up with the light.
Jessie (or Star if using the 'new' names) had woken first out of the three newcomers. She chewed her bottom lip, glancing down at her dad, whose head had fallen at an odd and painful looking angle. Dylan was still asleep but she knew he wouldn't be for much longer.
"Erm.. Hi," she said softly as she saw Honey.
"Hey kid," Honey smiled and began to work on the toast
"What are you doing?"
"I've just fetched fresh honey from the hives, now I'm making toast...and waiting for a friend."
"Is it morning?" Jessie glanced at Dylan as he began to stir.
"Yeah, it's really early though. Angel's here." Honey felt like the kid should know, even though the name felt weird
Jessie's eyes widened. "Really? You mean Angel, Angel? Our Angel? Where?"
"What's going on?" Dylan mumbled as he rubbed his eyes, while a soft, almost distressed sound left the still sleeping Daniel.
"Down in the village," Honey replied. "Your dad talked to her."
"He did? When?" Jessie looked over at her dad, frowning.
"Last night," Honey replied
"Oh. And he didn't wake us."
"I don't think he could have."
Jessie pulled a face and glanced at he dad again. "Is she the friend you're waiting for?" she asked hopefully.
"No, she's not well."
"Oh. Would be able to go and see her?"
"Soon maybe," Honey replied
Jessie sighed but managed a small nod.
"Are we actually staying here then?" Dylan asked, still rubbing his eyes. "No more travelling?"
"That's up to your dad," Honey replied. "It didn't seem to go so well."
"What do you mean?" Jessie asked, getting the question in before Dylan could respond.
"How much do you know about before?" Honey was never one for treating kids like fools
"Dad was a moron and hurt Angel," Jessie replied. "And other stuff." She glanced at her father before lowering her gaze to her hands.
"It made Angel sick, real sick and now we know we need to be careful."
"Sick?" Jessie chewed her bottom lip. "Like Dad gets sick?"
Dylan shot her a look. "He doesn't get sick, he's good, we all are."
Jessie bit her lip and nodded. "Sorry. Yeah. I didn't mean..."
"If she wants you guys, it wouldn't matter if you were on fire," Honey replied. "Now truth?"
Jessie looked at Dylan with an unsure expression. None of them aware that Daniel was starting to stir.
Honey flipped the toast. "Shine will want you all here, she still loves you very much."
"He just gets... sick sometimes, s'all," Jessie murmured. "Not a lot though, it's nothing dangerous or catching or y'know..." she added quickly before Dylan could stop her again.
"Then it'll be fine, we only really worry about catching," Honey replied
"So... no one's going to get mad?"
"Only if Shine does, and even then no one will be mad at you."
"Is Shine Angel's new name?" Jessie asked.
Daniel jerked awake, panic and confusion visible across his face when he didn't instantly recognise his surroundings.
"It is, and once your dad's up and moving I'll walk you down to her."
Jessie opened her mouth to ask something else but Daniel's voice spoke up.
