"Right. OK." He nodded, trying to think through the fog of tiredness. "Where can we stay then?" he asked, worry for the kids rising again. That was more tiring at times than the rundown exhaustion was.
"We can fix somewhere by morning."
"I don't even know what the time is now. Apart from that it's dark."
"I can have things moving as soon as dawn hits. Earlier if Buck shows."
"Is that who your friend went to get?" Daniel asked, giving a slight shake of his head as he felt it loll backwards.
"Our tribal leader."
Daniel repeated the phrase slowly, his chin dropping towards his chest before he jerked his head up again.
"Just sleep, I'll be here and so will they."
Normally, Daniel wouldn't relent and force himself to stay awake until he passed out, but hearing Angel's voice soothed him. "OK," he mumbled as his eyes slid closed and his chin dropped to his chest once more.
Angel gently guided him to settle with his head resting on her lap, her hands moving through his hair
Daniel made a small sound, that almost sounded like her name, at the touch.
"I'm here, for now, it's OK"
Daniel settled down, relaxing a bit but still tense even in sleep.
