Daniel brushed the fingers of one hand through his daughter's hair as she settled back to sleep, even as he adjusted the bag beneath Dylan's head with the other, so the boy didn't wake up with an aching neck.
"Where's home?"
"Ten minutes that way," Honey pointed
Daniel looked at where she pointed and then back at the sleeping ten year olds. He desperately wanted to go, to find out if it really was her, but to leave the children. He couldn't wake them now, it was too cruel after everything and if it wasn't actually Angel... He felt torn and with worn he was, he could feel his left hand twitching, even as he tried to stop it.
"I can watch them...if it is you, she needs you," Honey murmured
"I..." Daniel curled the fingers of one hand into his hair. "I don't know." The words were a whisper and he unconsciously tightened his grip on his hair. The idea of leaving the kids with a stranger scared him but he desperately wanted to see Angel. If it really was her. But then if it wasn't...
"I don't know you."
"I know her, she's slept up here, I'm safe."
Daniel chewed the inside of his mouth. "I... I've not left them since..." He couldn't remember. He wanted to say since they started travelling but there had been a few times he had had to - twice to find something to eat, another time to treat an injury while they sleep and the time he had been ill.
He scrubbed both hands hard through his hair. "They have nightmares... I... if they wake up just... tell them it's OK. They're safe and I'm just getting something or resting. Don't tell them... in case it's not.. in case you're wrong."
"Look for the shack with sunshine painted on it, the kids did it," Honey replied. She dived into her own home and returned with a wind up torch.
"Sunshine. Right."
"She might not be, what you expect," Honey warned.
"If it is her... I don't care." But then she might not want to see him after everything. Or be what she expected. He glanced back through the shack door. "Hopefully they'll just sleep through. It was a long day."
"I've got them, go!" Honey shot back
He gave a short nod, took the torch and headed off in the direction she had indicated.
