Ava was up and about, but her movements were still slow and ginger and her skin looked sunburned and tight. She was tired and careful and only really working normal hours.
James leant a shoulder against the wall as he waited for the paper coffee cup to fill up. The machine gave crap sludge but it was caffeine nonetheless.
"Morning," Ava said softly as she came past him.
James turned to look at her. "Hey. How you feeling?"
"Tired, but better every day. You?"
"Same as always." He picked up the now full cup.
"I do worry about you."
James' brow creased. "Why?"
"Because you're my friend so I'm allowed."
"I'm fine. I'm not the one who almost died," James said.
"It's all relative," Ava replied
James arched an eyebrow as he took a swig of his coffee.
"I can't really die, just cease."
"Die, cease, end..." He rubbed his forehead. "When's your break?"
"Half 12," Ava replied
"Same then."
"Wanna go scowl at people in the canteen?"
James huffed a laugh. "Why not."
"I'm still tired enough to glare."
"You can glare?"
"Like a boss," Ava replied
He chuckled. "What's the time now?"
"Ten and we both know we'll end up late."
He nodded. "Should get back to it," he said as he drained the coffee dregs.
"Cya later, and look after yourself."
"You too," he muttered, tossed the paper cup and headed back towards the cubicles.
Ava watched him go, before heading back to work herself.
