"I don't really care. I definitely don't want to hear whatever bullshit you're going to spout next." Daniel spoke without thinking, too drained to worry about minding his words. His mind elsewhere. He could still make other arrangements with Jessie, so he wouldn't be taking advantage of Angel. That was never his intention.
*
"She works three jobs, four now she's working for you too,"
*
"I already knew that." He scowled at her again. "And she's not working for me."
*
"What's she been doing then?"
*
"Being a friend."
*
"Oh really?"
*
Daniel frowned at her. Why was she still here?
*
"I have shit to do," Lucy drawled
*
"Best go do it then," Daniel muttered.
*
Lucy swept off, out of the studio.
*
Daniel groaned and slumped further in the chair, letting his head fall back and his eyes close. The throb within his temples and behind his eyes in time with his heart beat.
*
Sam stuck his head through the door, 'Angel's gone.'
*
Daniel opened his eyes. "What?"
*
"I doubt she's shot through, she's not like that," Sam replied
*
"Maybe she's just gone out for lunch?" Daniel shifted to get up.
*
"Maybe, she normally asks if anyone else wants anything though," Sam replied
*
"She was tired, she could have just forgotten." Daniel frowned at Sam. "Are you worried about her?"
*
"She's my friend and this isn't like her, so a bit," Sam admitted
*
"Have you tried calling her?"
*
"In the drawer," Sam replied
*
"Oh. I, er..." He scrubbed a hand through his hair. "I've got time before I need to do anything, I can see if she's walked down to the cafe?"
*
"Could you, I've gotta do some jungle edit stuff,"
*
"Course. I'll let you know if I find her," he said as he headed for the door.
*
"Thanks," Sam grinned. "I'm sure she's fine, just little sister vibes, you know."
*
Daniel nodded before he left. He walked down to the cafe Angel had shown him after his interview weeks ago. He hoped she was OK.
*
Angel was slumped in a chair outside with a huge coffee in her hand, staring blankly.
*
Daniel spotted her just as he went to push the door open. "Angel?" He walked over to her, brow creased in concern.
*
"Hmm?" She jerked, as if woken. "Hey, I was just running my set list in my head."
*
"Set list?" Daniel asked. "Sam was wondering where you were," he added.
*
"I sing at night, used to be in a band," Angel replied. "I'll say thanks to Sam."
*
"Oh? I didn't know that. What kind of band?" he asked, standing by the table now. "You left your phone at the station, so I offered to see if you were down here. I promised to let him know when I found you."
*
"The Debs? Bit of everything really. I'm alive, it's fine," Angel replied
*
He nodded, while turning the band name over in his mind trying to work out if he recognised it. "I'll let him know. I'll let you get back to running your set list," he said and turned as if to head back to the station.
*
"Just give me five minutes?" Angel murmured
*
"Hmm?" Daniel turned back to look at her. "Sorry, what?" He glanced at the cafe door, contemplating grabbing something to eat before he headed back.
*
"I'll bring something back?"
*
Daniel frowned with confused tiredness. "For who? Oh, you mean you're going to bring your lunch back with you?"
