Daniel looked over as she spoke. "I think I'd have issues walking through doorways if I did. That and I'd likely break an ankle."
*
"I'm sure Angel would be happy to teach you, or know someone who did."
*
Daniel frowned unsure what Lucy wanted. "I think I'll pass."
*
"I've got to duck out for a bit, cover for me?"
*
"Why, what are you supposed to be doing?" Daniel asked, his frown deepening.
*
"Just a thing for my mom."
*
"I meant what am I covering you for?" Daniel asked.
*
"Lunchtime."
*
Daniel blinked. "You're supposed to be on air?"
*
"I'm supposed to be helping Sam."
*
"Where?" Daniel asked.
*
"They're in four and I can run the equipment," Angel bustled back in, blinking as Lucy took one of the coffee's
*
"It's fine. I'm not scheduled for anything anyway. You have things to do," he said rising from the reception desk. His features tightened as Lucy took the coffee from Angel. "I'll see you later," he said, heading for the studio.
*
Angel simply assumed the comment was addressed to Lucy and sank back behind her desk
*
Daniel made his way to four, his jaw tight. He was tired, hungry and pissed off. If Lucy hadn't said it was because of something to do with her mother he wouldn't be doing this. And Angel had her own job to do. He'd have to pay her back for the wasted food.
*
Angel was so tired that Lucy's usual bitchiness made her want to cry and she slumped behind her desk
*
Daniel glanced at his watch as he entered 4. At least, he wouldn't have to find something to waste some time before school ended.
*
"Hey, I thought I had to deal with the mega wench today?" Sam grinned as he loped into the room
*
"Bit of a change of plans. Think you can put up with me for two shows in one day?" Daniel asked, pushing his tiredness down and trying to bring his mood up.
*
"I can hack it if you can," Sam smiled
*
Daniel returned his smile with a slightly forced one of his own. "Course, I can."
*
"Angel doesn't look great again today. I hope she doesn't faint again."
*
"Again?" Daniel asked with a slight furrowing of his brow as he began to get the equipment set.
*
"She has a few times, works too hard."
*
Daniel nodded slowly. "She did seem tired."
*
"Three jobs and all."
*
"Three? She mentioned having another job but not... No wonder she's bloody tired," he muttered.
*
"No one in this town has any money."
*
Daniel nodded grimly. "You're gonna have to fill me in. I have no notes for this show."
*
"Lunch, middle of the day, kids, dogs and feelgood crap," Sam replied
*
"Is that your way of telling me you haven't really got a plan?" he quipped.
*
"You haven't listened to me before have you. I never have a plan."
*
"I had no idea," Daniel said dryly. "I thought that was just a one off."
*
"I can't roll my eyes more."
*
Daniel chuckled. "Well, I'm almost ready here."
*
"Good, boys show," Sam laughed
*
"What does Lucy usually do? Try to take over?" Daniel asked, too tired to censor himself.
*
"Just a tad," Sam grimaced
*
"Well, you won't have to worry about that from me. I quite like being in the background. Just helping out."
*
"Then we're golden,"
*
"Good. Because you'll have to put up with me for drive-time as well," Daniel pointed out. He glanced at the clock. "Ready?"
*
"Always and never," Sam replied
*
"As it should be," Daniel murmured before counting him in.
*
Sam settled behind his mic, his easiness with his listeners was real and comfortable.
*
Daniel's hunger had abated, his tiredness however. He smothered another yawn as he filtered through a new caller. Thankfully, Sam was less demanding and critical than Lucy.
*
Sam turned and looked at him. "I don't need you that much, go grab a cookie from Angel."
*
Daniel blinked. "Are you sure?"
*
"Mmm, she bakes those things you know,"
*
"I didn't." He rubbed his forehead. "I need a cup of tea anyway... Want me to get you anything?"
*
"Cookie and a coffee, and talk to the girl, she likes you."
