Angel glanced up as he left the room, tilting her head in question
*
Daniel didn't notice, gritting his teeth as he listened to Kelly going on about how she couldn't look after Jessie after school tomorrow because she needed to get her hair cut and it was impossible for her to get a different appointment time. It didn't matter that she had agreed to do this and unless he lucked out with Mands, he would have to leave work to pick Jessie up and bring her back with him - again.
It was too late to ask for time off and he couldn't leave his daughter at the school. Nor did she have close enough friends that she was willing to stay with while he was at work. Maybe once she got her confidence back...
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Kelly... does it really matter what I say? Just.. fine. Thanks for letting me know," he muttered and hung up. Why couldn't things be easier? God he was bloody knackered.
*
Angel stood and walked over to him. "What do you need?"
*
"I think I need another coffee," Daniel muttered, tucking his phone back into his pocket. "At least for now."
*
"I'm going," Angel smiled
*
"I didn't mean you had to, I could get it myself."
*
Angel smiled. "I'm going."
*
Daniel returned her smile with a small one of his own. "Thanks, Angel."
*
"And I am going to bring you some food, you look fit to drop."
*
Daniel automatically went to object before stopping himself. "I... think I forgot to have breakfast this morning."
*
"You think? So you did, OK. And what else do you need?"
*
Daniel's expression turned sheepish and he shook his head. "Nothing, but thank you."
*
She just tilted her head and looked at him, waiting
*
His eyebrows rose. "What?"
*
"I can hear, I know your babysitter ditched."
*
Daniel closed his eyes and sighed. "For tomorrow, yeah. I'll work something out."
*
"Bring her here, I've got her."
*
"I couldn't ask you to do that. That would be three days in a row."
*
"I'm offering, it's different."
*
"I..." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "If I can't make other arrangements."
*
"Don't, just bring her."
*
"Are you sure?"
*
"Of course."
*
He nodded. "What time's Sam due in?" he asked, glancing at his watch. It wasn't even midday yet, there was still a few hours before school finished.
*
"Two why?"
*
"Just trying to figure out how much time I have," Daniel murmured. He hadn't realised how hungry he was until Angel had mentioned food.
*
"Do you need him in earlier or later?"
*
Daniel shook his head. "Neither. Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud. I'm not used to not being busy, so the prospect of a few hours possibly free..." He shrugged.
*
"I do the scheduling I can make you busier," Angel teased
*
Daniel ducked his head. "Sometimes it's easier to be busy," he murmured. He sighed. "I think I'll get myself another coffee. Want anything?"
*
"I'll go. Oh, I never asked, allergies?"
*
Daniel blinked. "Sorry, what?"
*
"If I need to bring in food? Allergies."
*
"Oh, right. For when Jessie's here? No nuts or citrus."
*
"And yours?"
*
Daniel frowned, blinking tiredly and confused at her. "Mine? I thought you were only getting coffee now?"
*
"You need food, you look more like dropping than I do."
*
Daniel rubbed his forehead. "I guess if there's a chicken or bacon sandwich going, I'll have that. You really don't have to though."
*
"I'll be ten minutes."
*
Daniel nodded. "Want me to watch the phones while you're gone?"
*
"Just message take..I dunno if I trust your people skills today"
*
Daniel started to nod before raising his eyebrows. "My people skills?"
*
"Mhm, be back soon."
*
Daniel nodded, frowning at the lack of answer before he moved to settle behind her desk, ready to take any messages while she was out.
