Daniel emerged a while later, feeling drained and almost more on edge than he had before the interview. He felt like it had gone well but he knew he would worry about it constantly once home.
*
"Hey, how'd it go?" Angel glanced up from her novel.
*
"Good. I think. I don't know." His shoulders sagged slightly. He glanced at his watch. "I don't suppose you know somewhere close where I can grab something quick to eat?"
*
"I'll walk you, I've got the coffee run to do," Shine replied
*
"It's close then? My car's parked outside."
*
"Three minutes walk, tops."
*
Daniel nodded. "OK. Thanks, that would be great."
*
She put her book away and grabbed the list, leading him out of the building. She wore a vest and pencil skirt, bright and shining.
*
Daniel fell into step next to her. He found himself wanting to both thank her again and apologise for bothering her.
*
"So, why Lime? I saw the CV's, you could leave us in the dust" Angel asked
*
Daniel blushed at that and rubbed the back of his neck. "I guess I just wanted something more low key. Something fresh and just getting started."
"It's also closer to home."
*
"There's nothing to worry about, I just wondered. Looking at the experience levels of the others you've got it."
"Family huh?" Angel asked
*
"Thanks. I hope so."
He looked at her and nodded. "Yeah."
*
"Good, it's good to have people."
*
"What about you?" Daniel asked, even as he unconsciously moved to hold the door to the cafe open for her.
*
"No people, not here," Angel replied.
*
"But elsewhere?" He asked, following her inside.
*
"Four brothers, parents in Chicago, nephews and nieces."
*
"Bit of a way away then." Daniel took a breath to speak again but caught sight of the cafe's clock. He swore and glanced at his watch. "Sorry, I've got to go," he said, the idea of getting food forgotten. "It was nice to meet you, Angel."
