Cam had disappeared back behind the shelving and returned a moment later with the crisps and biscuits they had found.
"You two need to eat." Anna didn't disapprove of swearing and would never correct her niece.
"So do you," Bex said, holding out a packet. "There might be more. We haven't looked properly."
"Don't put yourselves at risk," Anna protested.
"We've been doing fine by ourselves so far," Bex pointed out. Cam sat down next to Anna and offered her a bottle of water.
"Mmm, but you're not now," Anna shot back
"Neither are you," Bex said softly.
"Do you have any idea where John is?"
Bex and Cam shook their heads. "Last time we heard from him was after you got back from your honeymoon. Then we went on holiday."
Anna nodded. "Right, so we need more food."
"It's late. We can look tomorrow?" Bex suggested.
Anna nodded. "Get some sleep."
Bex nodded and then watched her brother move back behind the shelves to get the rest of their things, the concern and worry clouding her face.
"What's wrong?" Anna asked in a low voice
"I'm just not used to him being this quiet," Bex replied in kind. "He barely speaks now. When he does it's mostly single words."
"More people know. I'm sorry if I'm ratty, everything hurts."
"It's ok. Is there anything we can do to help? I know Mum said her ankles and feet were awful when she was pregnant with Cam."
"I'm just tired and uncomfortable, but I'll live," Anna replied
Bex nodded. "Well, we're together now, so me and Cam can help with things," she said as her brother returned with their packs and blankets.
He held one out to Anna. "Here."
"Thank you, now rest, please."
The siblings nodded and settled next to her. Maybe in the morning, Bex would ask Anna exactly what had happened for her to end up here and what her uncle had done.
