Daniel took Rain into his arms, making sure to support her head as he cradled her. He had almost forgotten just how tiny and fragile newborn babies were. He looked down at her with such a look of love. His first grandchild. He knew in that moment he would do anything to protect this precious bundle of joy. She already had him well and truly wrapped around her tiny baby fingers.
"Grandpa, Grandad, Nonno. I'll go by whichever one you want me to. Sam... She's just perfect." Oh yeah. He was smitten.
"And of course I sent Amanda a picture. It's her grandbaby too. One look at this precious face and she'll come around. I just know it." Daniel had more faith in Amanda than Sam did, apparently. Even if Amanda had broken his heart and tore apart their happy family by screwing Anoush behind his back.
"I figured you want to tell Nonna all about Rain's name yourself - when you've rested and you're up to it. Wow... she's a great-Nonna now. Doesn't seem two seconds since I was holding you in my arms, Sam. You were the most perfect little thing I had ever seen. Even before you were born I loved you."
He didn't mean to play favourites with his children, but he had literally told Amanda when she was pregnant with Sam that that one was his and she could have the next one. He hadn't meant it seriously, but he was a lot closer to Sam than he was to Anthony.
