"I meant right now, jackass," he answered back, rolling his eyes and giving Sam's thigh a swat with the back of his hand, hard enough to make a point but soft enough not to actually hurt. The question he'd been expecting came and it still threw Dean off guard. Frowning a bit, he shrugged, looking down at his hands before resting back on them, looking around Sam's room absently.
"I was praying 'cause I knew how much this trial crap was getting at you. Because I know you. I knew you were hiding how much this was beatin' you down, and I figured Cas was the only one who could look out for you when I can't." He shrugged a bit, looking over at his brother with a serious look, one of those reserved for when they were Having A Moment.
"If I asked, would you have told me the truth?" He knew the answer. Not a chance.
