It was a full eight hours before Johnny could call Daniel. He had crashed hard. Now, he was fixing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Matthew, who was in the living room, watching some cartoon called Bluey. Johnny of course did not know how to Skype or anything like that, so he had called up Daniel's room number on his phone, and put him on speaker. He finished with the sandwich, put it and some chips on a plate, and carried the plate out to Matthew with a cup of apple juice.

It had been awhile since he'd had to take care of a small kid, but he thought they were doing okay. Daniel didn't answer, so he'd have to try again. Now that Matthew had something to eat, Johnny went to make himself a sandwich. The bed had been just as luxurious as he remembered, and he felt an ache that Daniel wasn't there with him. After he'd finished making his sandwich, he got out a Coke and dialed Daniel up again.

He'd keep trying.
