Daniel had loved Sam from the moment she was first placed in his arms. He had been smitten before she was even born, but that moment when she was laid in his arms with those big, wide, unfocused eyes and those tiny little fingers and toes, he knew that he would never love anyone or anything more than that little girl. She was his world.
And she had been his mini-me for so long. A tiny Daniel shadow. But, Daniel had noticed - especially in more recent years that Sam had a lot in common with Johnny too. Sometimes she would react in a way that was so much like her papa.
And of course, she was very much her own person too. That one had been a little hard to deal with at first. Accepting that she was growing up and maybe didn't need Daniel quite as much as he needed her anymore.
"Johnny!" Daniel huffed, with a soft laugh. "Sorry, Sam! Sorry. I'll make sure he behaves! But yeah, I got chemo and then I'm allowed to come home." He wasn't going to tell her that the hospital strongly advised that he stayed until all his treatment was done. He wanted to go home.
"How are you doing, Sweetheart? The bambinos behaving now? Laying in the positions they're supposed to be in?"
