Daniel flinched as Lucille berated him. It had been a long time since she had used that tone with him, but it still cut as deep. He let out a frustrated sigh when he wasn't given a chance to explain himself and rubbed at his bandana - if he had hair he would be tugging at it right now.
"It's not your fault, Deac. I shoulda known your Nonna wouldn't take the news well." He took a few breaths, sounding a little more breathless than he would've liked. "How are you doing? Finding everything at the house okay? I really appreciate everything you're doing. I know the last few days have been... a lot."
