Into The City
Who: Alan Shore
Where: Scot's Corner, NW corner of Dundas and Wellington
When: Evening
Why: Getting into town, looking for a place to stay
Open: Yes, to anyone interested in helping a newbie.
The VIA station was new. That was Alan's first reaction on stepping off the train on to the platform. It had been twenty years since he'd been in London, Ontario. The memories came flooding back quickly, although the reality was starting to conflict. Across the parking lot, he could see where the New Yorker, a famed rep theatre, one in which he'd seen Easy Rider for the first time in, had been changed. It had been gutted, turned into an extension of GT's, a Richmond street club famous for under-aged girls and over-aged men looking for a pickup. Now, both sported out of business signs.
"Well, here we are again." Alan said, looking around. He collected his suit bag and turned right down King with it over one shoulder. At least Call the Office was still around, and he made his way up Clarence, looking for more marks of his time there.
There were surprisingly few.
He paused at the parking lot that had once been a three level underground shopping mall and theatre. The number of empty shops on the main downtown thoroughfare, Dundas, stunned him a little. Apparently London had followed the same route as many US cities, expanded out to suburbs, and clustered around malls and box stores to kill off the city core.
"Oh, thank god." Alan breathed out. Scot's Corner was still there. The bar that had once been Corks and Caps had turned into the pub weeks after Alan had arrived for school, and it appealed to his own ancestry at the time. It also had a bartender who was a Boston Red Sox fan, which made moments between Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays fans all the more entertaining.
