Even though rain wasn't falling that the second, Elphaba had the umbrella held firmly over her head. There was no reason to risk sudden pain and/or death. Not if it meant all she had to keep an umbrella up to block sudden rain.
She was on the way back from the library where she was trying to make some progress. It wasn't working well. The books there were from a different world than hers. They were almost as hard to read as the Grimmerie. She'd slowly made out some information. It was quite a process for her. Much harder than it would be if she were from this world.
Awkwardly she tried to clutch the umbrella with both hands while still holding books to her chest. It had worked better in her mind. A sudden gust of wind took her off guard. All her attention went to controlling the overly large umbrella. The books tumbled out of her arms and onto the street. Looking down at them she frowned not quite sure what to do. It would be a pity to see the books ruined by the rain, but it was better them than her.
