River had been slowly adjusting to the new life in Mundus. Her episodes were still prominent but not as obvious as they were on Serenity. Sleep was nicer here since they didn't seem to be speaking to her anymore. She wondered if it was difficult for them to cross over with her or had she finally managed to put them at bay. As much as she would love to take the credit for it, she knew in her heart that this strange world was what was doing it.
Although she'd never admit it, River was conflicted about this place. She was infinitely happier now that she had her older brother and Kaylee but should she stay settled? She loved the sense of freedom of not having the Alliance on her tail, no problems with Jayne, not as many tests from Simon, nothing. However on the other hand, she did miss Serenity, the ship became her home, she missed the other crew members--even Jayne. But...if the crew was safer without her on the ship, wasn't that reason enough for her to want to stay?
River did hate, however, living by herself. She couldn't wait until the three of them moved in together. As great as it was to have Simon, she still needed him now, if not more, than when on Serenity. Slowly she pulled herself out of bed and tugged on a sweater, two sizes to big, over a dress before heading outside.
The snow was beautiful. It had been a while since River had been able to see it. She liked how it fell in little pieces and squished beneath her black combat boots. It was finally February and she only had a few more days before her birthday. Another year had gone by so fast.
River headed straight for a coffee house. She saw him go in not too long ago. Even though they were in the same place now, River often found herself missing her older brother and wanted to just see him. When she arrived to the coffee house she smiled as she sat down in the wooden chair across from him. The legs were uneven, causing River's head to tilt and examine the chair underneath her.
"My chair is problematic." she stated awkwardly. The custom 'hello' did occur to her before she was distracted. River, liking problems she can fix, became distracted by chair instead. She reached over to another table and took a couple of menus to shove underneath the leg that was too short. When finished she smiled again and looked up at her brother.
