'It's like 9-11, it woke people up for a few weeks or months before they returned to apathy,' she replied with a shrug. 'It's how people are.'
She knew, although, she was never very politically active, she knew a few people who got swept up in the new wave of patriotism. However, as she said the wave didn't last and after a year and people getting sick of hearing about the war, the notion was abandoned and had turned into distaste and eventually apathy. She figured the locals were the same way.
