He sighed as quietly as possible as she pointed out the quantity of lasagna she'd made was more than enough, and it seemed he wouldn't escape from this one without arousing suspicion.
"Very well, I'll join you for dinner," he agreed, watching her wash her hands as she spoke to him. Of course she didn't understand his specialty; his predecessor at Gotham University hadn't, not until he had shown him the importance of fear. He smiled a little at the memory.
"Fear is a very interesting, but under-researched emotion," he said by way of explanation, attempting to keep his low, neutral tone. "Everyone feels fear, but our reactions are not well documented. And why shouldn't they be? Isn't it fascinating? One person is frightened of crows, the other frightened of moths, but why?" He couldn't help the twisted smile that crept onto his face. "And can't that be used as a weapon? Fear is a powerful emotion. It can make us do things we don't understand."
