Jon had protected her. He'd done something Dan knew he couldn't. Even though she was here with him and it seemed like she still wanted him there was a part of Dan that knew he'd never measure up to Jon. He was just no match for a man like Doctor Manhattan. No one was so just why had Laurie chosen him? What did she see in him that Dan couldn't see for himself.
His hold on her tightened just a little as he held her. "Yeah, it was Adrian. I couldn't believe it either but... oh Laurie you should've seen how proud he was about it, like he'd just done the greatest thing in the world. Like he hadn't just killed millions of innocent people." Sure, Adrian had done it to avoid a nuclear war which may or may not have been brewing on the horizon. He'd killed millions to save billions but Dan still didn't know if the ends had justified the means.
"Laurie, it just happened." he murmured because, to him, it had just happened. Maybe time flowed differently here. "No way out... but Rorschach... Laurie when I left Rorschach and Veidt were fighting. I just left him. I hope he's all right." He would've said more but, at that moment, Laurie was kissing him and Dan couldn't think of anything but her and feel of her lips upon his. Closing his eyes he held her close and kissed her back. "Yeah, I'm here. We're together again and that's all that matters."
