"Lower beings?" Oh, she had to laugh at that! "I suppose I might be a lower being in a way, I'm his assistant and help run his office." Whoa -- FBI? "It well, ah, it stands for Federal Bureau of Investigations, and um, having those letters on a shirt or jacket identifies who they are."
"It's okay, really." She smiles to put the other woman at ease. "Well, a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who treats mental illness, so he prescribes medication and orders tests, but he's also a psychotherapist too -- basically talk therapy. And most of his patients are kids, children and teens."
Biting back a smile about the mention of asking too many questions, she knows it's often a sign of a good therapist. "It's better for them to ask more questions than fewer ones, really. And a lot of talk therapy is helping that person to resolve or overcome issues, help them get comfortable in their own skin really. And a 'shrink' is just a slang term for a psychotherapist."
