"Just hold on, please, Lisa. Please." Tears streaming down his face, Ianto stretched to find a familiar control switch. Anything that would free her. He would be free to search entire machine, but for the hand in his own.
"Ianto." Tightening her grip on Ianto, Lisa tugged on his hand to get his attention. "Look at me."
"I have to find the controls!" He tried to glance over her prone body, but the tubes and knives blocked his vision. Descending from the ceiling, they were frozen mid transfer, some still stuck in her.
Stuck in his beautiful Lisa.
Cringing away, Ianto clenched his eyes shut. "Lisa." Only the steady hold of her hand kept him ground enough to continue. He coughed twice before forcing himself to look again. "It's got to be here."
In anger, she squeezed his hand. The sound of servos activating filled the chamber. The added strength caused his entire arm to flex in pain. "Look at me, Ianto."
He twisted, trying to alleviate the pain. "Lisa, you're hurting me." It wasn't that he didn't want to look at her face. That was probably the only place he wanted to look.
No, the reason was he knew.
"The lever, Ianto. Pull it." Her voice had a tinny quality as she whispered to him. "Do it, for me."
"I can't." He winced, her grip growing more restrictive. Shaking his head, he tugged on his arm. If she wasn't going to see reason, he wouldn't let her control him.
"Pull the bloody lever!" Her own fingers flexed, stretched out in an attempt to reach it. They weren't long enough, just short.
Face tilted, Ianto looked her. He knew what a sight he must be. Half his face was swollen from the crying, the other from already forming bruises. "We can save..."
Her expression was flat, eyes no longer sparkling. "Pull the lever." It was plainly stated, no emotion, no plea.
Straightening up, used his free hand to wipe his face clean. He sucked in a stuttering breath. With a nod, he reached out his hand and gripped the knob. With a quick jerk down, he pulled the reliever.
The background hum of power in the chamber went silent.
