It wasn't much. That was what he told himself to justify an expensive meal, even on his salary. He didn't buy Alfrendi's very often, usually a comfort food or something to celebrate. His own meager upbringing had taught him to be frugal and cherish the good times.
Frowning, Spencer reached up to push a lock hair behind an ear. It wasn't much, almost already growing there. Even now, months since he had cut it, the habit wouldn't go away. He cleared his throat to distract his mind from the hows and whys of his habits. That was another one, but it served a better, truer purpose.
Picking at the takeout box, he scanned the clams and pasta for something that appealed. He couldn't really find one. It wasn't the food. His stomach just wasn't in the mood tonight. Spencer knew that he really should have ordered a salad too.
"Reid?" The soft spoken name echoed in the silence of his apartment.
"Hm?" Glancing up, Spencer stared across the table at Jason. His old mentor was staring back, waiting. There sat a tiny smile on his lips, but the set of his shoulders meant he was also agitated. He was most likely anxious about his reply.
Jason sighed. Staring down at the table, he searched it for something or anything. "I understand it is a lot." His fork turned over, he stirred the Thai Noodles before picking a piece of beef under them. "You could at least tell me you'll think about it."
That was true. He could at least agree to do that much. After all, he knew that he would be thinking about it. The offer was extremely tempting. "Yes. Of course. I will consider it."
"Good." Jason nodded once. Then he leaned over and brought the piece of meat to his mouth. After popping it in, he grinned happily at Spencer.
Unable to watch him eat, Spencer went back to studying his own dinner. It wasn't very fascinating. Nothing about the clams were unique. Even the pasta was average. There wasn't anything in there to help him decide if he wanted to quit the BAU either. That didn't stop him from looking, though.
