Frowning, Reid eased himself down in to the desk chair. "I find it some what disturbing."
"What's that?" Pausing on his way to their desks, Morgan barely maintained control over his lips.
"The unsub's delusion was based around old television shows." Reid looked up at the others for confirmation. Not that he needed it. He had been in the middle of it after all. "When she saw me, why did her mind automatically go to that show in particular?"
JJ snorted. "Oh, I don't know." She wiped the bit of dressing from her lips. If it also masked a grin, so much the better.
While he made it back to his desk without cracking, Morgan barely managed to keep his composure as he spoke. "Perhaps it is just one of those things we will never fully understand." When he finished with a snort his eyes went a little wide.
Across the BAU office, Prentiss whimpered from behind her mug of coffee.
The noise drew Reid's attention. He turned his head slightly to look over his shoulder.
Sensing she was caught, Prentiss quickly spun her chair away. Her back was now completely to the younger man. This gave her the freedom to let her face go.
Reid's frown deepened. There was something going on here. He glanced to the others for confirmation. From their tightly controlled expressions and their surreptitious glances, he knew that it was at his expense. "Still, there had to be some clue."
With a great deal of effort, Morgan settled down in his chair without it darting off. The file he carried was dropped on to his desk as a distraction. "I really couldn't say why."
It was a lie. Reid knew instantly, the other man's body language clearly gave it away. Before he could ask, though, Morgan's phone rang.
Morgan sighed with relief. Reaching in to his pocket, he pulled out the noisy device. Flipping it open, he smiled at the ID. "Talk to me, my goddess." Silently, he sent her a prayer of thanks.
"Worship me later, dark chocolate." Her voice was a soft purr. "Put me on speaker, I have something for the team."
A funny feeling started in Morgan's gut. It was the same feeling he got before pulling his gun. "Whatever you say, beautiful." Pulling the phone from his ear, Morgan held it out. "Listen up guys, Garcia says she's got something for us." He pressed the button to turn on the speaker.
Quickly the team turned from their tasks to focus on the phone.
To get a better chance of catching it all, Reid stood up. He needn't have bothered as the signal came out loud and clear.
"It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights," came groaning out of the speaker. The sound was a little tinny, but the words were unmistakable. "It's time to meet the muppets of the 'Muppet Show' tonight!"
Reid's back went rigid as he narrowed his eyes at the phone. The first snicker came from behind him, to the right.
It was high pitched, but clearly identified as JJ's voice.
More soon followed until the entire office was erupting with laughter.
Frown back in full force, Reid shook his head. "It's not funny." He turned to sit back down and found Hotch across the desks from him. The other man's blank expression prompted him to sigh. "It's not."
