"Father, I haven't been exactly truthful." Keeping his head bowed, Felix rocked slowly in his seat. Aware the eyes of his confessor upon him, he tried to rein in the act.
"In what way?"
"There were things I had to do while I was on New Caprica, things I did not wish to do, but knew no other way." As he spoke the stinging in his eyes produced a single tear that ran down his cheek. Feeling detached from his body, Felix stopped moving all together. "For so long, I have hidden the depths of my depravity, how far I was willing to go in order to secure information. In my actions, I have aided the enemies under the guise of doing my job. Now that I am no longer in the situation, my actions appear unforgivable."
"What have you done that you feel this way?"
While he stilled his insides to match his outward appearance, Felix watched the older man's boots come closer and stop in front of him. The warm hand upon his shoulder almost sent him over the edge. By sheer will, he kept his emotions from spilling out. "I laid with the enemy while he watched, father. There can be no forgiveness for that."
"Is that what Baltar spoke of? Is that why you had to silence him?" The hand tightened against Felix's shoulder.
Nodding, Felix reached up to wipe at his face as he sniffed, but the hand stilled his actions. Glancing up, he met the Admiral's gaze. "I..." His jaw hung open, unable to say the words he meant. "He knows everything, father."
There was more to it that Felix wasn't telling him, Adama knew. However, that wasn't the point. Frowning, he considered what else there might be for a second before dismissing it. He was most likely already aware of what Baltar knew. Adama patted the younger man on the shoulder twice before turning away. "You may return to your duties, Lieutenant."
Shock was replaced with instant joy. Rising from the couch, Felix embraced the Admiral quickly before stepping back. Upon realizing how much control he had lost, he flushed and looked down. "Thank you, sir." He saluted the older man, then rushed from his quarters.
Coming from the head, Roslin watched him. Chin tilted to the side a little, she examined his body language closely. "For a long time I have questioned your motives involving him, you let him go far too easily. There are very few you have been so lenient with. You had your own son arres..." She cut herself off when his look gave her all the confirmation she needed. "Were you still married?"
Turning around to face the table behind him, Adama poured them a glass of the ship made liquor. "It's not up for discussion. I am satisfied Lieutenant Gaeta was truthful. Whatever else he might be keeping from me will come out in good time."
Watching him suspiciously, she accepted the glass. "Tell me one thing and I will let it drop. Does Lee know?"
Closing his eyes, Adama sighed through his nose. Instead of answering, he took a drink.
She considered her drink for a moment before letting fly her last arrow. "I suppose it's good nothing ever happened between them now." The glass Adama had been holding crashed to her feet. "I see." Holding out her glass, she let him refill it. "In hindsight, it would have been best if I had let you silence the good doctor quietly."
