There were lots of reasons not to be doing this. He had thought of many of them even while he removed Lee's shirt. One of them was the very fact that Lee had lost that which had attracted Felix to him in the first place. But that had only lasted until those lips had touched his skin. It wasn't hard to love Lee Adama, it wasn't hard to let Lee physically love him either. There were no gentle words of endearments, nothing to say this was done out of anything but lust.
Each time he raised his hand to caress the soft body where once hard muscles flowed, he felt part of himself give in. When Lee had pushed him flat on the bed he shared with his wife, Felix had forced her face from his mind. What she didn't know meant little to him. All that mattered was Lee still had his pants on.
Felix pushed aside Lee's sweaty palms, gripping the infernal belt, loosening the strap. It came away easily enough when experienced hands had control. This wasn't the first time he had removed Lee's belt. Unbuttoning the other man's pants always was a moment he took time to savor. Once he had the zipper in his fingers, he slowly lowered it down the track, looking up to watch Lee's reaction.
This was what he lived for now, that feeling of being wanted. The Commander was a man, he had wants and needs, one of them happened to be Felix himself. Forcing the sides of Lee's pants open, Felix faced the bulging flesh still hidden in black cotton. That was what he wanted, the source of all madness. Slowly, he ran a hand along the waist line of Lee's boxer briefs, twisting his fingers in the hair beneath his belly button.
For a moment, he enjoyed the coarse hair as it ran through his fingers. It was unique, a peak of what he would soon experience. The very sight of it excited him, making him subconsciously lick his bottom lip. He wanted to run his tongue over it, taste the flavor of Lee Adama. Without realizing it, he had come closer to do just that.
"Are you going to just stare at it all day?" Looking down upon Felix in amusement, Lee raised an eyebrow.
A slow smile spread across Felix's lips, and he laid back on the bed. As he did, he spread his legs to wrap them around Lee so he could jerk him down on top of him. When the considerable bulk of the Commander landed on him, Felix gasped. He was heavier than he looked. Still, Lee was right were he wanted him.
Legs hanging off the bed, Lee began to doubt the wisdom of this himself. At least the position they were in. "I can't do anything with my underwear still on."
"I'm sure you can think of a few things." He nipped at Lee's reddening face, kissing the red marks he left behind. To emphasize his words, he ground himself slowly against Lee's burgeoning erection. "Enough talking, Commander."
"Definitely!" Giving in, Lee lowered his face to Felix's neck, biting the skin along his artery. When the man beneath him hissed, he latched on hard and began sucking. Slowly, his hips began to push in to the groove formed by Felix's legs. It wasn't enough, he wanted to be all the way inside him. Pulling back from the desperate temptation, Lee managed to reach back and push his boxers down. They wouldn't go further than beneath his balls because of his pants, but he was too far gone to care.
Felix's eyes shot open the moment Lee was inside him. Gasping, he desperately tried to grab on to something beneath him to ground him. It was savage and brutal, everything he knew it would be. His feet were planted in the bed to help ease the strain.
Lee's hand was in the curls of his hair, jerking his head back. As he cried out, his words were cut off in a kiss. Taking the provided anchor, he wrapped his arms around Lee's back and held on tight. He had what he wanted, he had all he needed right here.
The hatch closed unnoticed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Checking the buttons on his uniform, Lieutenant Gaeta flicked a piece of lint from the cloth. The image he presented to the rest of humanity was that of a man who did his duty. As far as they were concerned, this was the real him. Catching a movement in the mirror over his shoulder, he looked up to see Lee smiling at him. It wasn't a large smile, just something for him alone. Returning it quickly, he went back to adjusting his uniform.
He had had the time to take a shower afterwards, but had only used a rag to wash the dirty parts of his body. Most of him still smelled of Lee. Closing his eyes, he could still picture the larger man on top of him. Clutching the edge of his uniform, he took a shuddering breath to calm his body. It was finished, this was it.
Walking to the hatch of the crew's locker room, Lee paused a second to check his appearance in the mirror. Standing next to Gaeta, he nodded at the Lieutenant in recognition. After checking the mirror to make sure no one was watching them, he lowered his hands to his sides, letting his fingers brush across Gaeta's backside on the way. "See you in CIC, Lieutenant."
"Yes, sir." Their eyes met once more in the mirror, then Gaeta was alone at the mirror. Reaching down, he wet his hands then ran them through his hair to flatten back his curls. Without the gel, they would be wild unless he cut them. A memory of Lee running his hand through them, made him smile. On second thought, may be just a little trim to keep them manageable instead.
When he looked up to examine himself in the mirror, he saw Duala watching him in the mirror. The look she was giving him would have effected him four months ago, hell, may be even four days ago. But almost being executed for doing your duty made a lot of things cease to matter. Pushing back a stray curl, he smiled and walked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Night shift in the CIC, it was his new position to placate those who thought his next posting should have been out the port landing pod. He had made powerful enemies without really trying, that made a bitter smile come to his lips. It was good to have enemies, it kept one on his toes. He felt an insane urge to cackle maniacally so the people who kept watch over him would have something to report to their friends.
For the first time in months, he actually smiled without a reason. It was weird, a sensation he hadn't felt before. To smile just because he was happy. At that thought, he did giggle. He was happy! At his outburst, the CIC went quiet and everyone turned to look at him. Gaeta had to cover his mouth to quiet down the next giggle fit and hold his console to remain standing.
Seeing them all stare at him in horror only made it funnier. Pretty soon, he abandoned trying to be quiet and held the Dradis console for dear life. Tears were pouring down his face and he was shaking from the need to breathe. Still, he kept on laughing and it felt good. He was happy, the universe be damned!
As quickly as it had come on, the feeling of light headed giddy passed and he was once more himself. Breathing heavily, he wiped at his eyes and blinked them clear. He took another moment to compose himself then went back to fixing the console. Even with almost two weeks of work, the Dradis still kept fluctuating. A shadow fell over his console and he looked up to find the deck commander standing there, concern on his face. "Yes, Commander?"
"Everything okay, Lieutenant?" Lee laid a hand on the Dradis console, leaning in close to keep their conversation as quiet as possible.
"Fine, sir, everything is fine." What he really wanted to do was ask Lee if he would be all right if Gaeta licked his hand. He felt the need to do something outrageous just to shake up the tension. Instead, he nodded at Lee to signal he was indeed fine.
"Very well, carry on with your duty." Lee tapped the console once then walked back over to command. He had seen the look in Gaeta's expression and wished he had for a moment. However, he knew it would never happen. Lieutenant Gaeta wasn't the type to just break free and do something wild. No, that was Felix, his Felix. Lee grinned. His Felix.
~~~~~~~~~~
The first sign he knew something was wrong was that Captain Thrace had slammed him in to his own locker. Always a loose cannon, she had proven herself also an irrational bitch since the occupation. Wiping at the blood that had started to trickle from his lip, he turned to face her.
"I hear you've been frakking around in things that don't concern you." Fingers twitching, Kara brought up her fists. She wanted to hurt him, not for what he had done, but on the idea of him feeling it.
Gaeta ducked just in time to avoid her fist and slammed his own in to her gut. He wasn't in the mood and decided to end this quickly.
Grunting, Kara drew back for another try, but didn't get the chance as she was picked up and body slammed. The wind knocked out of her, she tried to focus her eyes. What she saw didn't fill her with much confidence of her survival.
Standing over Kara, Gaeta's fists clenched. He wiped at his nose and lip, breathing heavily. "You stupid frakked up bitch!" He rose on the balls of his feet a few times before shaking his head. It wasn't worth it, she wasn't worth it. In anger, he whipped the towel off his shoulder and threw it in her face. He made a cutting gesture when some tried to block his way as he stormed his way out of the lockers.
Kara lay there on the deck as the air slowly returned to her lungs. Biting her lip, she rose from the deck. "Round one, Mr. Gaeta."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The second time he found trouble, he was working out before his shift the following day. Across from him, Lee was also working out. His wife was on duty as senior communications officer and that was just fine with Gaeta. He was watching Lee bend over to pick up a towel off the floor when he was hit from behind again. His training kicking in, Gaeta's foot shot out and swiped at the person who had shoved him.
Kara had long learned the counter move and jumped to avoid it. She didn't give Gaeta a chance this time, moving in and kicking him in the ribs. She followed him across the mat as he rolled from the kick. Kicking him again, she didn't anticipate him catching her ankle and she went down.
Rising to his feet, Gaeta used his hold on her ankle to bring her under him and kicked her in the ribs twice. Then to make sure the bitch didn't get up, he brought his knee up in to her leg. It made a satisfying snapping sound and he let her go.
Walking away, he enjoyed how the people in the gym gave him a wide berth. He might as well get something out of it if they all hated and feared him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The frak in the shower took place against the steel wall under the shower head. Everyone had cleared out when they saw who it was. Rumor and gossip spread fast on the Galactica. He had promptly stripped of his gym clothes, put them in his laundry sack, sealed it, put it in the laundry shoot, and walked under the spray. That was when Lee had walked in.
They didn't say anything. Felix bent over and grabbed the soap rack. It didn't take long for Lee get in to it or him. What he didn't expect was Lee to wrap his arms around his chest as he thrust in to him. He enjoyed the other man's embrace as much as the sex.
When it was over, Lee had kissed the skin under his ear. "She's been placed on restricted duty and under armed guard. Doc Cottle was impressed with how clean the break was."
"She should stay out of things that don't concern her." Then he was quiet for a while as Lee took his time washing them both.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His third run in with his old friend Mr. Trouble, was in the mess hall. Whole tables cleared just as he came through the chow line. More than once he heard the cursed word whispered in his direction. It wasn't true, he had met all seven cylons, knew them intimately. But, because he had been forced to associate them, he would always bare the stigma.
He knew it was coming before he even saw Colonel Tigh darken his table. Where he had once thought the man was incompetent, that had changed to cold hatred. There was nothing but duty standing between them now. Duty and guilt. Of course, the older man wore guilt like any other emotion, drunk and pissed. "What can I do for you, sir?"
"The Admiral would like to speak with you before you go on duty, Lieutenant." Avoiding looking directly at Gaeta, Tigh swallowed hard. "Don't dally around about it either."
"Yes, sir." He finished what little he could stomach of his midday meal and walked the tray to the washers. Again, the line was made clear for him to pass. That was fine with him, he could handle it.
When he glanced back to his table out of curiosity, he saw that the Colonel was well on his way to a hangover.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
His fourth and final brush with trouble came in the form of a print out from the Galactica's printer banks. Rereading it, he tried not to let the letters blur in his vision. There it was plain as day, in black and white. Raising his head, he looked in askance to the Admiral. "Are you certain, sir?"
"As much as I have tried to reintegrate you, your influence is too disruptive among my crew." Pouring himself a glass of water, Adama met the Lieutenant's gaze. "You are to report to the hangar where a Raptor will take you to Colonial One for your new assignment immediately. Your things have already been sent over."
"Permission to speak freely, sir?" He was going to say it anyways, it was best to ask first.
"Denied." Drinking the water, Adama turned his back on Gaeta, effectively dismissing him from thought.
"Is this about my actions involving your son, sir?" There, he had said it. Let the cat out of the bag, refused to ignore the big white elephant in the room.
"What actions would those be, Lieutenant?" Genuinely surprised, the Admiral faced his subordinate again.
"Nothing, sir. Am I free to go?" So, there was at least one person who didn't know. May be Duala hadn't told it to everyone, just the Captain. It made sense, to save face and get her revenge, involve the loose cannon who already had a grudge against him.
Adama studied him for a while. He entertained the idea of questioning him, but really, what could he do if he refused to answer. There was one way to find out if he would answer. "What actions of yours involved my son, Mr. Gaeta?"
"That is between him and I, sir. Which means it is private unless he wishes to change that. All I can tell you is that it will not effect the way I would perform my duties, past, present, or future." With that, he had finished speaking on it.
"Very well. You are dismissed." Adama was slightly surprised when Gaeta saluted him. He returned it with his usual stoic enthusiasm. As he watched him go, he thought it was time he and Lee had another talk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lee met him at the Raptor. He was the only one around. Standing in the entrance of the Raptor, he watched Felix come to him with a somber expression. It was hard for them both to see him off.
As Felix climbed the ramp, he felt his chest restrict at the sight of Lee in a flight uniform. It appeared to have been made specially for his large body, but it gave him a quiet dignity in his opinion. All Felix could think about was how to get him out of it. "Ready to disembark, sir."
"Climb aboard, Lieutenant, your Raptor awaits." Walking in to the controls, Lee began launch prep. He quickly scanned the readouts of all his instruments while Felix closed the hatch. The moment he had learned of the Lieutenant's transfer as chief military advisor to the president, he had handed over command to the second duty officer and made his way to the hangar. He wanted to perform this last duty for his lover.
Taking the co-pilot's seat, Felix strapped himself in. He flipped the console lights on and put on the headset. "Ready, commander."
"Hang on." Soon they were underway and on course for Colonial One. Half way there, he put the Raptor on auto and took off his own head set. Rising from his seat, he made the short trip to the back. Felix's hand was already on his zipper before he had even thought about what they were doing.
It was quick and rough, just like every time. When it was over, Lee made a note to tell Tyrol to fix the controls. Liquid wasn't good for the wiring. He was back in his seat zipping up his flight suit when the comm light went off. "This is Raptor Perseus, go ahead."
"Perseus, this is Colonial One, the president wishes me to relay a personal message as follows. 'Where the frak are you?' What is your response, over?"
Grinning at Felix, Lee turned off the auto pilot. "Tell her we are on our way. ETA, two minutes. Perseus out."
Putting on his headset, Felix's fingers brushed against the new mark on his neck and he smiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The president wasn't amused despite the fact that she was smiling. "I hope it was worth it, Lieutenant." Arms crossed, she stood next to her assistant in the docking bay of Colonial One.
"It was." Gaeta shared a final look with Lee through the cockpit window of the Raptor before he followed Tori to his new quarters. It would be a long time before he saw the Commander again, he knew. As the bay doors closed behind them and the Raptor's engines powered up, Gaeta felt the familiar ice that had kept him alive during the occupation start to creep back in to him. It was insidious, and no matter how much he hated it, there was no stopping it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rumor reached Colonial One the following week that Commander Lee had a secret lover on Galactica. A day later, the official split up of Commander and Lieutenant Adama came over the wireless news. Irreconcilable differences and the stress of their jobs were cited as causes. It wasn't hard for people to read between the lines. Suspicion fell on many people, including the still recuperating Lieutenant Thrace, who got busted down for fighting.
Rumor and conjecture went on for many days, each one seeming to bounce off the impeccable persona of one Lieutenant Gaeta in the eyes of his fellow presidential staff members. He dismissed them with a flick of his eye lashes. One look and the stories were dropped in his presence until they learned simply to avoid talking about such things with him all together. All around, he fooled everyone but the one person in the know.
It wasn't hard for Laura Roslin to see it. The quiet way he went about his work, avoiding any mention of the Commander. It was all quite a familiar pattern, one she had known the ins and outs of most of her life. When he would seem even further away than usual, she would offer a kind word or gesture to keep him from sinking too far. It was what had kept her going during each and every time it happened to her. Being dumped was never easy.
There wasn't any real proof of his emotions until confirmation of the Commander's new lover came over the wireless during the morning gossip network that masqueraded as a news program. Commander Adama and a pilot with the call sign of Kat had been spotted on the Demeter, the new Cloud 9 as it was touted, having a drink and sharing intimate embraces.
Hands shaking, Gaeta dropped his usual set of files. He didn't bother to pick them up, instead choosing to leave the presidential office.
Laura held up a hand to stop Tori from saying anything. "I'll handle this. See to it that the Admiral gets my regards, I may be a while."
"Yes, ma'am." The president's concern made Tori feel anxious. She hadn't been aware of a problem and that was the problem. Scanning the other people in the office, she began to wonder what else she didn't know. Tori made a vow then and there to get to know everyone of them better than they knew themselves.
She found him in the rear docking bay, staring at the last spot he and Lee had seen each other. For a while, all she did was wait. Her footsteps had alerted him to the fact she was there.
Leaning against the wall, Gaeta kept up his vigil on the hatch. He smiled humorlessly. "I keep expecting the doors to open and him to come riding in saying it was all a mistake." Shaking his head, Gaeta rubbed at his eyes. "I knew what it was from the moment we started. We weren't supposed to get involved, at least one of us didn't. I've been really good up til now, not letting it interfere with my work. He just...what happened to being discreet?"
"As long as he was hiding it, you could pretend it wasn't really happening." Waiting for him in the doorway, she lowered her head. Her own memories of similar pain were still fresh in her mind even years after. "You knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Fooling yourself was only delaying it."
"I'm not sorry. In fact, I'd trade it all for one more time with him." He smiled again, this time for his own ghosts. "Not once did he treat me badly. In that short time, he made feel wanted, something I have never experienced in my life. It was nice for once just to be that one someone he turned to."
"It's a wonderful feeling, it never lasts." Coming up to stand beside him, she bumped shoulders with him. "It's not meant to, else it wouldn't feel so good."
Wiping at his eyes again, he sighed. "I suppose I should get back in there and pick up those files."
"Don't worry about it, I'm sure Tori is on top of things. Take the rest of the morning off and meet me after lunch, we can go over the security briefing then. I'll be having a late lunch, so make it around two." At his questioning look, she smiled. "It never lasts, but other feelings that are equally as wonderful do. Enjoy your freedom for a bit. Now, I had better get back before the Admiral stages a coup of my ship again."
~~~~~~~~~~
He had to see it with his own eyes. The news had come as a surprise to everyone. Lieutenant Adama was pregnant with Commander Adama's child. If ever he needed something to kill off any last shred of hope that he and Lee might have another go, this was it. Of course, there was a law making it illegal to have an abortion, so now the Lieutenant was stuck with the fetus of her soon to be exhusband.
In a sick twist of fate, she had what he wanted, a piece of the Commander that would never leave her. The fates were very funny ladies, he had come to believe that. One couldn't help be around Laura Roslin and not be impressed upon with the fact that they might exist. It was with that in mind he prayed every night for something.
Standing outside the mess hall on the Galactica, what little bit of faith he had was once again dashed to bits. Watching as Lee picked up Kat's tray as she kissed him left him breathless. The pain wasn't the cause, it was the longing he felt. He wished with all his being that it was him in there, not her. Just to touch Lee once more was all he asked the fates.
"Painful, isn't it." Taking advantage of his distraction, Kara had limped up behind him. She enjoyed his pain, grinned at the desolation she knew he must be feeling. "Now you must know what Dee felt when that was you."
"You're wrong. It didn't bother me then and it doesn't bother me now." Shoving her out of his way, Gaeta turned to go. He paused only long enough to thump her cane.
And it didn't. Not really. Not any more.
THE END................
