Xenophilius was moving down the corridor, his nose in a book - the required text for Charms this year - and not paying the slightest bit of attention to where he was walking. His trunk, propped up on mystical wheels, was being tugged along behind him. He was already fully clothed in his school robes.
He stumbled backwards as Mary opened her compartment door, dropping and nearly tripping over his trunk as he floundered in surprise. He looked up at Mary, bewildered for a moment before he managed to relax.
"Terribly sorry," he said, hastening to pick up his Charms book, and resume his course, certain that he had disturbed her. "Must not have been paying attention. It's a rather compelling read..." Suddenly, thoughts of fleeing were gone at the possibility of sharing information. He held up the text to her to indicate what he'd been reading. "Have you poked through it yet?"
