The knock on the door had been surprising, a little off putting, since he hadn't been expecting anyone for awhile and had yet to actually bring up Kara's impending arrival since he'd figured that he would have been alone by the time that she showed up. But in this neighborhood, it could have been anything put to and including a neighbor from down the hall or a guest of someone who'd ended up getting the wrong apartment number. He'd lingered briefly, hand hovering over where he'd left his pistol, before deciding that it was probably better to answer the door unarmed to start with.
As he opened the door, his face shifted from surprise, anxiety, and contentment in a flash as she wrapped her arms around him. God, this was going to get complicated, fast, but in the moment, in this moment right now, he could care less. He'd made one of the biggest mistakes of his life (and all things considered, that was saying something) leaving her behind, whatever his motivation had been at the time, and to have her back now was far more good than he could have ever hoped would happen to him.
"Hey, baby," The tone in his voice was quiet, awed, as he pulled back just enough from the embrace to get a good look at her, his hands settling on the sides of her face as his expression softened from contentment into an intense affection. "More than I can say. God, I'm sorry, Kara. I'm so sorry," He said, a slight break in his voice as he tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned in to kiss her.
