"It's okay to feel terrible," Dylan said, sympathetically. "I'd feel terrible if I went through all that at once. I felt bad enough waking up here the first time, I can only imagine how it would be to be expecting someone and not have them." She didn't linger on that thought, because she didn't think it was good for him to dwell on it.
She gave him another little squeeze. "I don't know you yet," she said, "but we can fix that. I know you're Edwin. Where are you from? What did you do back home? What's your favorite kind of dog?" She grinned at him. "You might actually get tired of me asking you questions, just fyi. I can go for hours."
