Who: Ulani Kahananui and OPEN What: Arriving in Zenith Where: Just outside the barn When: Around 8:45 am.
Ulani's morning started with the sudden realization of her own existence, like an old, steady computer screeching to life. She was groggy and her whole body seemed to vibrate with the sensation of being asleep far too long. She hadn't even made herself open her eyes before she knew something was wrong.
The bed beneath her was hard… had she fallen asleep on the floor? No. There was dirt. Was she outside? It had been a long time since she had been drunk enough to do that. Had she been drinking? It almost felt like she had to mentally stretch to find her last memory. She had been working. It was busy, February usually was with people escaping snowy winters and romantic getaways for Valentine's day. She had closed out the bar to the protest of sunburnt tourists and had been waiting at the bus stop.
Then how did she get here. She stretched her arms and tried to force her eyes open, hissing at the sting of something like a needle in her arm. That caused her eyes to fly open, despite the protest of her sluggish body. "The seven hells," she muttered and she forced herself to sit, despite the ache in her body.
She was in a barn, that itself was pretty unusual. There was a horse farm that she knew of on Oahu, but it was miles away from Honolulu and full of horses… this was empty. Plus, she was almost certain that the stalls didn't have IV stands in them… or a box labeled "Open Me". The IV needle seemed to shift as she moved, and the sting was back. She needed to remove it. She didn't even know what was being pumped into her.
How hard could pulling out a needle be? Moving her hand to tug at the tap holding the IV in, she noticed the hospital band… but that didn't make sense either. "One, two, three" she counted to herself before sliding the needle out of her arm. She used the end of the hospital gown she was wearing to stop the trickle of blood. None of this made sense.
Ulani pulled open the box, and was almost so relieved to find her clothing, that she almost missed the phone. She yanked the clothing on almost haphazardly before snatching up the gadget. She frantically dialed 911, waiting with baited breath until she heard the beeps of a disconnected line. There was something wrong, maybe the phone couldn't get signal.
She stood onto wobbly legs. She detached the IV from its stand and carried it with her, if nothing else, she could smack someone with it.
"Aloha motherfuckers" Ulani called out, kicking open the other stalls, each time expecting to find some creep hiding there. Instead, she just found storage… clothing and toys and metal pieces? She wasn't very sure about it.
It hadn't even occurred to Ulani that she might not be in Hawaii until she stepped out of the barn. The trees were wrong. There was no Koa tree, or breadfruit, or Hala vines-- the air smelled different. Where the hell was she?
“Hey, Hapai Iaho, You wanted me here? Come say Hello!” She began to shout, adrenaline pumping through her.
