It was hard to say that being tired was better than being terrified when Marco most definitely still felt both. He frowned when Harper mentioned that the shed had formerly had doors, because it would have been a better hiding place, even if it was a little small and dark for his tastes.
He wanted to sit up and look at Harper through the back window when she made a sound like she was laughing, and he was too irritated to see why anyone would be laughing at a time like this. Moving even a little made his realize that he was still trembling, and he laid back and pulled his arms close again. "There's no point," he told her. "They just grab who they want and do whatever makes them smile that day. There's no point. They made monsters to scare us, like you can't do that easier ways. It's just fun to them." He wasn't sure he felt like that was true all the time, but right now he did. He took a few deliberate breaths, still trying to feel better than he did. "Was anything else in the shed? Besides the lantern?"
