Kiley was starting to realize how people got lost and died in the woods. She wasn’t that scared about doing so, mostly because she was hoping TPTB would knock her out and she’d wake up in bed next to Chase soon. She didn’t like being alone and she went from cursing Scotty to hoping he was okay. Even though she knew he wasn’t. The jackass.
She was trying to find her way through the trees to something that looked familiar but it was just more of the same wherever she went. If she went too far she’d probably get zapped. And if she wasn’t afraid of drawing the wrong kind of attention, she might have started yelling again just in case someone was close enough to hear her.
Kiley has begun to sing under her breath just for the sound of something other than the wind and her heartbeat in her ears when she heard the movement. Whirling around, she squinted into the dark before crouching down to search for something to use in case she had to defend herself. But maybe it was Scotty. Or someone else trying to be as quiet as she was.
Her fingers closed around something thick and she felt the bark scrape against her palm. A branch. It wasn’t terribly long but it would work okay. Maybe. Kiley slowly straightened, clutching the branch tight in her grip. She wanted to call out in case it was someone from the house, but there was a chance it wasn’t anyone and she didn’t want any of those creatures to know she was there. So she began to walk backward, away from the sound, her gaze darting about the darkness.
