Alone in the dark, Kiley walked for a while. There were no landmarks for Kiley to use to navigate, nothing to give her even an inkling of which direction she was going or how far she'd gone. There were just trees, and beyond that, more darkness. Kiley couldn't even hear the river from where she was, and if there were a sudden noise around her, it was provided by the wind shaking the leaves above her.
At least, for a while. Without her phone, Kiley couldn't know how long exactly she'd been on her own before something broke the silence.
Crunch. Rustle. Crunch.
The sound had come from somewhere off to Kiley's right, and while the sound didn't seem to have come from something that had been looking for her, it was still close enough that it would be nice if it were a friend...
